The Board of Directors of the DCVMF has made the difficult decision to postpone the 2020 Veterans Golf Tournament from May 13th until July 29th. We recognize that these are uncertain and unprecedented times for us all. Unfortunately, we feel that even if the current restrictions are lifted soon, we wouldn’t have time to put together a full field of golfers or be able to provide an experience that our golfers and supporters have become accustomed to. We feel it is important to heed the warnings of our state and federal leaders, while supporting the requests from our county and other local officials to follow the social distancing guidelines they have enacted.
We also recognize that many of our sponsors are struggling as well to stay afloat during this time. We feel that it is the prudent choice to do what is best for our stakeholders, both sponsors and veterans. While the golf tournament is our largest fundraiser, we are confident that we will be able to maintain our operations during this time and continue to be there for our local veterans. Once we determine that our region is through this shut down, and the golf courses are allowed to reopen, we will begin to spool up for the new date. In the event this continues through the remainder of the summer, we will make the determination to cancel all together by mid May.
We tried to wait as long as we could to make this decision. We understand that time is critical to those businesses struggling today though.
We hope that you and your family are healthy and doing well during this time. If there is any way that the DCVMF can help you or anyone you know, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
